Henry and Valerie met at the Court and were married only last year.
Valerie: “I have been here living for five years, and Henry has been here for three and a half years. And we have been together for three years now.”
I: Do you feel that your life has changed as you’ve gone through each stage of your life?
Henry: “Yes, there are two reasons. I was once very shy, but because of the circumstances of my job I became completely extroverted. I have no shame. The second reason is that your life changes, even when you don’t want it to. When I first came here I had just lost my wife a year before. I like to lead a very socially active life and my daughter persuaded me to come here because all my family, I have two children, had grown up here in London. I was quite happy that I moved and about the new situation I found myself in here. However, late in the evening, when I got to my room and I closed the door behind me, I was alone. It felt like my life was ending. But then I met Valerie and now that we are together it feels like a life renewed.”
I: What was important for you when you were younger and what is important now?
Henry: “It all depends on whether you’ve been able to achieve what you’ve wanted.”
